October marks the beginning of the academic year in Senegal. This year, we’ve sent 864 scholars back to school in Senegal and Kenya. One of these scholars is Anthia who is from a rural village in Senegal. In a recent interview, she expressed her appreciation for the program to our Project Director:
I am the only one in my whole family with an education. Although I have always had a strong desire to succeed and study, I lacked the means to do so. But once I was enrolled in the program, I felt that my dream could be achieved. I received tutoring in multiple subjects, school supplies and counseling. This program is the reason I have been able to stay in school.
Through academic scholarships, WGEP covers school fees, living expenses, personal effects and health care. Additionally, WGEP supports scholars through tutoring, health education, tutoring and life skills, helping girls succeed in school and beyond.
Thank you for supporting WGEP and scholars like Anthia!
