WGEP helps more girls stay in school by providing mentoring and after-school tutoring for both our scholars and other girls whose families can afford tuition but need extra help with exam preparation to pass rigorous grade-level exams.
Our Sisters to School program in Senegal enrolled 270 female high school students in a mentorship program from 2011 to 2012. These girls were able to meet and talk with female role models, many of whom successfully broke into male dominated fields. One highlight was meeting Dr. Marie Sarr, a woman doctor, who has risen to the position of Head of the Medical District. The students and their mentors also visited Ile de Goree, an important historical landmark in Senegal’s history.
Our mentorship programs are helping girls learn to become strong leaders within their communities!
